Toys inspired by and demonstrating aspects of science were popular in Victorian Times. People loved toys that did the seemingly impossible. Optical illusions, magnetic forces, the laws of gravity: they all seemed magical. These balancetoys were originally called skyhooks - effortless counter - weighted toys that could be set on a shelf or the rim of a table and set in motion to everyone's delight and amusement.
Balance toys are handcut, recycled metal boat parts, metal rivets that have been handpainted in "tale" style, hand distressed.
